What is going on? I feel like I must be on the same peyote the characters were taking, because this movie isn't close to a 10. The frustrating part, for me, is that the back half of the move almost gets to that level. The drug induced insanity is remarkably well done.
However, it seems like reviewers want to gloss over the fact that the two leads are some of the more irremediably terrible characters in all of horror. The male lead is so unrepentantly terrible it ruins any investment a viewer might have. The female lead is...what? She is essentially a doormat for her husband, is weak in almost every way imaginable, and has zero sense of agency.
If you decide to watch this, skip the first 40 minutes and just get to the drug induced nightmare stage. The rest is unintentional comedy horrible.
