6/10
missed opportunity
15 March 2024
Race for Glory is a movie about rally, a car sport expressed as a thing for everyone, that everyone can live. Before going to the movies I had unfortunately seen negativity on social media. But after seeing it, I didn't see the poor quality that everyone was expressing. It's not a great film, but it's still decent. Scamarcio makes a good performance, but I think the best actor in the film is Daniel Bruhl, actor who has confirmed his level for a long time. Bruhl does not play a central character, but what he participates in does well. I didn't underrstand the Cesare Fiorio personality: the majority of the film is interpreted as a calm and quite introverted man, but on occasions it seemed to change totally personality. I really liked the sound, both musically and also during the races. It's also very well interpreted the race environment, just like it was back then. One thing I think a big flaw is the rhythm: despite having a low duration, the film is boring and monotonous, sometimes heavy. Another flaw is that, from my point of view, a biographical film must be true to what actually happened, while in some cases it seemed to deviate too much from the theme. Some comic notes are right and even the tones between the characters, but sometimes they become ridiculous. From this film I expected a lot, but unfortunately I bet on the wrong movie. In my opinion it's a very wasted opportunity, they could do something very nice with the plot.
