We've seen Andy Andy and Sumner come back for funny episodes, and now we get a return visit from Dave Richards, Sam's even sleazier buddy. Dave is surprised (and disappointed) by Sam and Diane's relationship, so he tries his best to break them up.
We get the usual dance of Sam's thoughtlessness and Diane's neuroses, egged on by Dave. We can see why women (or at least a certain kind of woman) would fall for Dave, but we also see why the old Sam would be pals with him. Sam has indeed changed, but he's still enough of a dog to potentially screw it up with Diane.
The subplot involves Norm returning to the dating scene after Vera tossed him out. Sure enough, Norm is not much more romantic with his new gal than with his wife, sneaking out on his date several times to get a quick one at Cheers.
