Enjoyable Indian crime action
28 January 2024
This Indian crime drama opens with a series of explosion tearing through Delhi. It is the work of Zarar, a bomber working for terrorist group the Indian Mujahideen. We see that he is living a double life; when he isn't working as a terrorist he is going by the name Haider and engaged to the unknowing Nafisa. The case is investigated by DCP Kabir Malik and CP Vikram Bakshi; they are joined by Tara Shetty, ATS Chief of Gujarat, where Zarar has struck previously. Over the course of the series the cat and mouse hunt for Zarar will criss-cross India and even take them beyond its borders. There will be more attacks and tragedy along the way.

If you are after gritty realism this probably won't be for you but if you want a fun series with plenty of exciting action and enjoyable characters. The major characters, both heroes and villains, are all good looking and well groomed... even vigorous chases and fights won't spoil those splendid hair-dos! There is plenty of action; this includes explosions, shoot-outs, and martial arts and over the top car chases; this is fun even if some of the effects are a little obvious. The series utilises many impressive locations... at times one could imagine it was sponsored by the Indian Tourist Board given the scenery and all historic buildings we see. The cast does a solid job; they may not exactly make the characters entirely believable but they are fun. Overall I thought this was a lot of fun and would recommend giving it a go; of course I must state that these of the opinions of an English viewer with only limited experience of Indian entertainment so the style feels new and interesting; something is less likely to be the case for those actually raised in the country or culture. The ending left things wide open for further seasons; if we get more I'd almost certainly continue watching.

These comments are based on watching the series in Hindi with English subtitles.
