Movie:
A naive FBI agent (Emily Blunt) is conned into volunteering for a Joint Task Force that is working at the Arizona-Mexico border against the Mexican Cartel. She quickly learns the force's tactics are unorthodox, illegal, and possibly even worse.
Opinion: PROS: Josh Brolin and Benecio Del Toro do an outstanding job as unflinching CIA men. The two men help paint a visceral picture of the unwinnable battle that often takes place on the border; and the toll it takes on those involved.
CONS: My chief complaint of this film is that in a quest to keep certain motives and characters mysterious - it leaves too many doors unopened. From the opening scene of the horror-house in AZ to the bitter end with Del Toro in Blunt's room.. It would have been a net-positive to elaborate more on the back story + future implications.
Bottom Line: This is a familiar plot but the non-stop pace and intelligent storytelling make this an unusually enjoyable movie. Emily Blunt plays the key character - you see things from her raw point of view. Excellent movie. 8/10.
