. . . barber's pole at the center of discussion during The Bullwinkle Show, Season 2, Episode 11, amid the Council of Tours in 1163. Because the Mr. Know-It-All segment dealing with barber poles lasts only 91 seconds, Rocky and Bullwinkle only have time to mention two of the three colors that Barney swirled around his original spinning staff. Rocky leaves out the most relevant color for contemporary viewers, which is blue. In 1163, the white stripe symbolized the fact that barbers were available for tooth extractions, and the red stripe meant that they'd be happy to cover customers' torsos with leeches to siphon out bad blood. Finally, the all-important blue stripe meant that a barber could cut a customer's hair if he was not busy removing teeth and positioning bloodsuckers.
