Hawaii Five-O: The Cop on the Cover (1977)
Season 10, Episode 3

Loudmouth feminist Reporter makes for a super-annoying guest star.

Warning: Spoilers
The crime being committed makes for a great story (a kidnapping fronting for an even larger extortion plan). The actors in that plot include the great Henry Darrow, plus Hawaii Five-0 "regular" guest stars Moe Keale (27 episodes), and the beautiful Josie Over (15 episodes).

If they were the only players in the story, it would be great. But the assignment of a "big-name news reporter", who dogs and pesters McGarrett, makes this painful to watch.

Actress Jean Simmons, as news lady "Terri O'Brien" is incredibly irritating (not just to McGarrett, but to anyone watching this show). Please Lady, just shut the heck up already!

Sure, it's a TV Show, but some of the scenes are not realistic. A news reporter would not be present during the interrogation of a suspected criminal. And when gunshots are fired, the police would not allow that same reporter to get front and center in the line of fire.

But the most improbable scene is the closing, where McGarrett and the reporter are toasting each other with a bottle of champagne. McGarrett spends the whole show trying to dump this blowhard, and they end up all lovey-dovey? Nope.

Still a good show, worth watching to see how the kidnapper/extortionists will work out their seemingly well-executed plan. For that, I rate 8 Stars for "The Cop on the Cover".
