The series is based on a book by one of my favorite Polish authors. It portrays the story of an alcoholic attempting to locate his son upon waking up in his apartment and realizing he is missing, with only vague memories of the previous evening. This isn't a typical crime story, and the trailer is somewhat misleading. While the criminal aspect of the movie isn't the focal point, it does echo real events that unfolded in Warsaw during the '90s. Ruthless 'businessmen' were acquiring tenements, expelling mostly older tenants unable to afford new rents through various legal and illegal means. Subsequently, the properties were either leased to more affluent individuals or sold at significantly higher prices.

It is a heart-wrenching tale that leaves you speechless by the end. The excellent performances of Jakubik, Sierenberg (portraying his film son), and the rest of the cast contribute to making this, in my opinion, the most powerful mini-series in years.
