The Dick Van Dyke Show: Odd But True (1965)
Season 5, Episode 8
10/10
CAN YOU ALSO SCRATCH MY BACK?
5 November 2023
One of the goofiest later season episodes, well directed by Jerry Paris and written by the master of comedy, Gary Marshall.

It all turns out the freckles on Rob's back, when connected(!), resemble the Liberty Bell! The Liberty Bell? That alone is bananas! Accordingly, Laura sees an opportunity. Rob could be a guest on a show called ODD BUT TRUE, obviously a parody of Ripley's "Believe It or Not."

If Rob's back passes the ultimate test -- he wins a cool $500 bucks! It's worth a try, and with a lot of crazy stuff in between. As always, Dick Van Dyke is a hoot to watch, especially when he learns his back is sooo valuable?

This actually may have been lifted from a real event, as there are countless folks (to this very day) who have claimed some odd formation on their body, due to wrinkles, freckles or what the ever!

One not to miss, and for old times sake, because we've all seen this a million times growing up.

Look for popular character actor James Millhollin as Mr. Tetlow. For years, James played frustrated bureaucrats to hotel clerks in some classic sitcoms and movies. He was genuienly one of those actors who you knew all too well, but forgot his name. James often reminded me of a contemporary Franklin Pangborn, who appeared in so many top comedies of the 30s and 40s, often with WC Fields.

In the math department, FYI: the $500 prize today would be worth close to $4800 dollars. That's nice!

SEASON 5 (1965) remastered dvd box set.
