In Canberra, Australia, we are introduced to an intrigue between Australia and China. The story begins when a young girl immolates herself in a Chines square. Meanwhile, a young man is chased across a bridge, force to jump in the water. He has swallowed SIM card. He is later found on shore by the police, gutted. A politician is starting to make deal with China involving military weapons. The main character here is a female reporter, Dunkley, who is treading on dangerous ground. The Chinese are not to be toyed with. A young woman is approached by Dunkley and this leads to her being brought before Chines authorities and then who knows?
