American Housewife: The Election (2021)
Season 5, Episode 13
6/10
Sad ending to a pretty good show
28 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I was binge watching the show and I have to say that season five was my least favorite season.

Firstly, I didn't like the cast changes. The new Anna Kat was good (I really liked her) but changing a main cast member isn't a good idea because the viewers are already emotionally invested in the original one. I understand that they had no choice. The actress left and they didn't have a lot of options to choose from. They couldn't kill off the character or send her to boarding school or something but it's still a hard pill to swallow. I also didn't like that both of Katie's friends (Angela and Doris) disappeared from the show. Especially Doris, I loved her!! Again, nothing against the new actors but it just wasn't the same. On a good note, I really loved that Cooper had a bigger role in this season (I loved him!). Oh and the new rich irritating waiter (Walker I think was his name) was a lot of fun too. I liked him a lot, it's a shame that they didn't match him with Doris. It could have been really great to watch these two together.

Secondly, when I first started watching the show I had a problem with Katy Mixon's acting. It felt like she was a little over acting. It was too much at first but then later on she tuned it down a little (or maybe she just grew on me idk) and I loved her. This season I felt like I did at the beginning. She wasn't herself and frankly she was irritating me a little. Maybe it has more to do with the writing, which is my next point but I just didn't like her character as much as I did before.

Lastly, as mentioned, was the writing. It wasn't as good as on previous seasons. It lacked continuity and it was all over the place. Not to mention that because of this abrupt ending we are left with tons of unanswered questions. Katie is pregnant (how that happened? She was very clear about not wanting more kids), Oliver doesn't want to go to Harvard all of a sudden (btw, what exactly happened to him during the SAT?), Taylor is engaged to Trip (loved his character so much btw) but her parents clearly aren't happy about it for some reason (not sure why) and Greg somehow won the election (really? This guy? A politician?).

So to sum it up, this was not a good ending to a pretty good show. It's very unfortunate that it ended this way. It's very inconsiderate towards the audience. I am upset despite the fact that I was binge watching it but many viewers were following this show for years and it's not cool to do this. If you want to end a show at least wrap it up first. Sad really but despite all of this I'm not sorry I watched the show. I had a lot of laugh and I enjoyed it.
