Matlock's character is an insult to viewers

I've read that Andy Griffith had a major influence in shaping his character on this series. At least we know who to blame. The show portrays Matlock, a genius in the courtroom, as a stupid, inept bumpkin everywhere else. He makes $1M a year, but he gripes about having to buy a package of 12 hot dogs. He goes to the grocery store but leaves his wallet in his car. And when it comes to women, he has the skills of a 13-year-old boy--maybe. This episode has a good plot and story development. The only issue--as in every episode--is Matlock's idiotic character. If you want to see how this show might've looked with a sharper, smarter Matlock, just watch Season 1.
