When you are nott smart, but you try to write about being smart
8 August 2023
There are a couple of good jokes here, but, unfortunately, the premise of this episode is, again, pretty stupid, and that ruins the overall impression for me.

In a typical failed attempt to convey intelligence by someone who is not very intelligent, we are shown a character who is so smart that she only dates Nobel prize winners. And not just that, one of her boyfriends was a double laureate. Now, just to show how stupid the idea is, at the time of writing this, there were 892 individuals in history who have been awarded the Nobel prize, and only FIVE of them got two. No person got three. But to the clearly not very intelligent person who wrote this, Nobel prize is something similar to a participation trophy in an elementary school race, and it is handed to everybody who happens to be walking by. Never mind that there is no such thing as a Nobel prize for paleontology. But to a stupid person, the recipe for writing a smart character is connecting it to something smart they heard of, and then saying "But, wait, he doesn't have one smart thingy - he has ten smart thingies! Boy that is so smart! And so am I!" This episode also introduces Charlie, probably the worst of the recurring support characters in the history of the show. No doubt thrown in just because of the criticism for "the lack of diversity". Charlie was not interesting, her acting was weak, and on top of it all, she was just average looking, while she was supposed to be gorgeous. Then again, this is nothing new for this show. Just think of all the time different characters made a fuss about how gorgeous looking Phoebe is, which was funny for all the wrong reasons, when you consider Lisa Kudrow's looks.
