Could have been better

Warning: Spoilers
I watched the C4 documentary about this case before seeing this bought to life as a drama.

What made this story so compelling was the way in which Ben misled, manipulatied and deceived his victims

The build up of the relationship between Ben and Peter is almost non existent and therefore we don't have time to care about Peter leaving a characterless narrative that's event led, one thing just leads to another without any real explanation or build up. Peter is dead by the 2nd episode and almost without explanation.

Ann Moore Martin is deceived into believing god speaks to her, another deception by Ben, but because Ben is still somewhat characterless we have no sympathy for Anne or the tragedy of her demise.

None of the evil in this story is explored or explained particularly well, and I really wish we'd seen more of Ben's wickedness because If the audience had seen it the tragedy of the mursers would have been elevated and the show would have been outstanding. I understand there may have been a need to be sensitive toward the victims family's but undortunately this led to a very flat drama.
