A mistake by one reviewer. Matt is not scripted to leave Kitty at the stagecoach stop. He got a horse and buggy and intended the two of them to ride back to Dodge together. Kitty decided to go on to St. Louis minus Matt.
This ep is quite interesting. It has two big shootouts early on. Gawky Texas-born actor Rick Hurst plays the coach robber. Usually he was a good man. Funny to see him playing a real bad guy.
As for the romance between Kitty and the gunslinger. It was he that rescued Kitty from the stage coach robbers so gratitude is there and romance can believably start. Gunslinger romancer played by Richard Kiley( nicknamed Pooch) in his fourth appearance on Gunsmoke-- all in the 70s phase of the show.
The mob that tried to lynch the gunslinger are composed of some out of towners!
