Gundress (1999)
5/10
Watchable 'mecha' Anime...
16 June 2023
Now, I have actually never heard about this 1999 Anime titled "Gundress" from the creative mind of Masamune Shirow before now in 2023, as I happened to stumble upon it by sheer random luck.

But I have to say that I am not usually overly fond of the 'mecha' thing, and I suppose that is why I never did stumble upon "Gundress". I did watch a lot of Anime and Manga back in the mid-1990s to mid-2000s. But I just never did sit down to watch this one.

The storyline in "Gundress", as written by Kazumasa Fujiie, Kentaro Izaki and Junichi Sakai, was adequate. I mean, it made for a fair enough viewing experience, though it is not something that particularly impressed me. But it made for okay entertainment for a single viewing.

And that was just it, there was not enough contents to the script to support more than a single viewing here. And thus, I will never return to watch it a second time. But of course, my aversion to the 'mecha' universe doesn't exactly help to win me over either.

The version of "Gundress" that I watched was an English dubbed version. Usually I avoid dubbed contents as it was plague-ridden. But I will say that the dubbing in this 1999 Anime was actually not bad, and it was bearable to listen to for 84 minutes.

The art and animation style in "Gundress" was adequate. A bit antiquated, I think, but it was definitely something that screamed late 1990s and Masamune Shirow all over.

My rating of "Gundress", from directors Kazumasa Fujiie, Kentaro Izaki, Junichi Sakai, and Katsuyoshi Yatabe, lands on a five out of ten stars.
