5/10
Rather pedestrian drama
11 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
"Le Sang à La Tête" has a promising beginning: the wife of Jean Gabin disappears without a trace, leading him on a desperate search to find her. But just as you're settling down to watch a mystery-thriller, she appears again, and the film becomes a marital drama, and seems to go on without a point. Gabin is a commanding presence as always, but the film seems to be in denial about his age: he has parents who look about the same age as him, a wife at least ten years younger, and engages in rolling fistcuffs on a beach! It's a watchable film, but from the Jean Gabin - Georges Simenon combo you are excused for expecting something more. ** out of 4.
