Electrifying Chemistry in a Heartfelt Drama
29 May 2023
If I really want to be critical, there are quite a lot of flaws to pick on, like the occasionally cartoonish sound effects, the blatant product placements, the poorly written villains, the many continuity errors and the cliched romance drama tropes.

But at some point after the first few episodes, I realised I am watching something that is so exquisite that I can switch off my typically critical brain and look past all the so called 'flaws'. The plot is pretty straightforward and predictable for a romance / fish out of water type of drama series, but it is well executed with much warmth and love that it draws the viewers in.

Kudos to the 2 lead actors. They have an electrifying and authentic chemistry on screen. They elevate the cheesiest lines with little gestures and glances. I can watch them flirt with each other all day. Although the payoff takes painfully long for a romance drama, the actors are able to make everyone (characters in the show and viewers watching) root for them all the way.

Credit must also be given to Mix. It was his first lead role ever and the story revolves around his character Tian. The success of the show depends on his ability to makes everyone believes in his character's journey and he certainly succeeded. He really held his own against his more experienced costars.

1000stars sets the bar for a gay romance drama series. It has a richer story, a picturesque backdrop and unbeatable chemistry between the 2 leads and really all cast members. It is heartfelt, sweet and thoughtful. Go check it out.
