Sykes: Journey (1972)
Season 1, Episode 14
7/10
A classic episode.

After a fishing trip in Glasgow, Sykes, Hattie and Mr Brown face a troublesome journey home, as British Rail employees and procedures prove to be slightly problematic.

It put me in mind of several of The Two Ronnie's sketches, in which they poke fun at The National Laughing stock, British Rail.

It's an almost bizarre, but wonderfully funny and original episode, all presented in monochrome, as the colour production doesn't exist.

Some great scenes, including that moment where Hattie tries to hold up Wilf from sending the train off, and of course some terrific one liners to enjoy, 'some people think we run The Railways just for them.'

A few familiar faces here, look out for Bill Maynard, Gordon Rollings and David Battley. A really clever and quirky move to have Deryck Guyler playing Corky's twin brother Wilf, just as eccentric, and of course he's a thorn in Eric's side.

A favourite, 8/10.
