Watch it for Nani ki kahani
16 May 2023
This show has one of a kind format where each episode has an independent animation story woven into the overall show narrative. These animations come seamlessly and at the right time.

The lead character is a kid who is shown to be lost and confused. While he is smart, it is not easy or natural for him to make choices. Much like a real life person. But each time he is facing a dilemma, and asks a hinting question, the granny guides him by narrating a folk tale which is played on screen as a short animation. While these animations don't have anything to do with the show lineup, they are told in the most endearing manner.

Each animation is preceded by situations of conflict, and followed by action to resolve and make decisions based on the perceived learning from these short stories. And so the overall story moves forward.

The show has a realistic but ideal Indian family setup. Nani is the most endearing character in the entire cast, played beautifully. The short stories are not prescriptive, and only work as guiding posts for the children to find their own answers. This route taken by the writers is extremely rare, courageous and very well executed.

The format fits well and flows smoothly to and from the animation.

The cast has acted reasonably well, except a couple of actors who seem to overtly casual in few sequences.

Overall, this is a breath of fresh air much needed in the Ott space. Good storyline with a sincere execution effort. A Disney kind of concept from india. Production value could have been better, VFx is sometimes great but not good in few places, but the great writing more than compensates for it.
