Review of Archer

Archer (2009–2023)
9/10
A Spy-Comedy Masterpiece That Hits (Almost) Every Target
19 April 2023
Archer is a spy-comedy television series that has captivated audiences since its debut in 2009. Created by Adam Reed, the show follows the adventures of Sterling Archer (voiced by H. Jon Benjamin), a suave and snarky spy working for the fictional intelligence agency ISIS. The series is known for its sharp writing, hilarious characters, and unique animation style.

One of the strongest aspects of Archer is its writing. The show is filled with clever one-liners, witty banter, and pop culture references that keep the audience engaged and laughing. The show also boasts an impressive cast of voice actors, including Aisha Tyler as the tough and sassy Lana Kane, Jessica Walter as the domineering matriarch Malory Archer, and Chris Parnell as the nerdy and hapless Cyril Figgis. The chemistry between the characters is electric, and their interactions are a joy to watch.

Another highlight of the show is its animation. Archer uses a distinctive style known as "retro-futurism," which combines 1960s design aesthetics with modern technology. The result is a visually stunning world that is both nostalgic and futuristic. The animation also allows for some fantastic action sequences, from high-speed car chases to epic gun battles.

However, the show is not without its flaws. One of the biggest criticisms of Archer is that it can become formulaic at times. The show often follows a similar plot structure, with Archer and his team going on a mission that inevitably goes wrong. While the writing and characters keep the show fresh, some viewers may find the repetitive nature of the plot to be tiresome.

Despite this minor flaw, Archer remains a spy-comedy masterpiece that hits (almost) every target. With its sharp writing, hilarious characters, and unique animation style, the show is a must-watch for fans of the genre. While it may not be perfect, Archer is still a show that stands out from the crowd and leaves audiences wanting more. Overall, I would give Archer a 9/10 rating and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good laugh.
