. . . track! When you title a film as TRACK MEET CHEAT, viewers will expect to see a track. Otherwise, they'll feel cheated. Though some refer to the sport of "athletics" as "track and field," the presence of a track is required. Running events take place on the track, while field events take place on the field, mostly the infield of the track. The arena pictured here resembles a 16,500-seat bullring more than anything else. But the obligatory eight or nine lane brightly-colored rubberized all-weather racing oval is inexplicably absent from this picture. There is no 100 meter dash here, nor a 110-meter hurdles. The one-lap 400 meter test also is missing, as well as the grueling 1500 meter finale of the decathlon. Instead, the audience is expected to be satisfied with the pole vault, shot put, another pole vault, broad--or long--jump, high jump, another shot put, hammer throw, another high jump and discus toss. Fat chance of that happening.
