My mother's opinion from 1945
27 February 2023
"Speaking of movies, the name of the show I went to see was 'Allotment Wives'. It really stunk, so if you get a chance to see it, you don't need to waste your time. Paul Kelly and Kay Francis played in it. I would like to see 'Junior Miss', though." (Written by my mother on November 4, 1945, in a letter to her fiance--my father--who was stationed on Guam.) As for me, I enjoyed it in 2023 for its film noir qualities, the unusual subject matter, and a cast of lesser-known actors. Too bad Kay Francis is not more widely remembered these days. Director William Nigh worked consistently but is mainly remembered for B-movies.
