I wasn't surprised when I read that the writer/director heard this "true story" the same year that he watched Get Out. It feels like this film is supposed to be along the same lines, but it fails miserably. The lead actor is ridiculously unbelievable, both the character and the acting itself. The rest of the cast do their best with what little they have to work with. I kept waiting for something to happen, for some explanation of what unfolded. None was forthcoming, and there was no character development. Honestly, I was hoping she was going to wake from a coma to learn some sort of valuable life lesson. It would've been far more believable.
