Esthers Orkester is a story about the first and the last day in a relationship which makes for a really interesting structure storytelling wise.
But more importantly, this film had me both laughing loudly and crying my eyes out. If you've ever lost someone dear to you and have had the horrible task of bringing others the news, this film could affect you deeply. It did for me and I'm thankful for that.
But the film doesn't take itself too seriously and I love that. It has these really emotional scenes that are suddenly punctured by what I'd call some kind of Lynchian humor. I think this suits the film well as it is in line with the characters way of acting and we need to be able to laugh, even when times get tough.
