I was actually surprised by this movie. It was a fascinating story, and the acting was superb, even the small child actors.
I had no idea that Korea was even ever annexed by Japan, and for soo long! It made me follow-up and look into the history behind those times. The plight of the princess and the Korean people at the hands of the Japanese was horrific, and with the exception of a small handful of people, she was so alone in her determination to return to her country and her people.
The brutal separation from her most beloved handmaiden was utterly devastating, but the scene of their reunion at the airport was so incredibly moving and emotional.
I'm glad they told this story of this woman, her courage and her fight, and of the terrible suffering of the Korean people. It was a most heart-rending piece of history.
