White Noise (I) (2022)
10/10
Bombastic & Intertextual
11 December 2022
The picture changes genres within the same film, with plenty of references to the 70's generation (Altman, De Palma, Carpenter, Spielberg) and Baumbach's own generation (Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson). The toxic cloud part of the film is an homage to the films of disasters (Earthquake).

There are technical homages to Brian De Palma with at least a pair of 360 degrees pan, overhead shots and all.

Driver is looking for an old newspaper in a circular pan which reminds us of Blow Out, finishing with the messy room in an overhead shot. Extraordinary intertextual, postmodern film with lots of cinematographic references and a touch of irony.
