If you watch this episode today, you might consider Robert Vaughn is playing against type. However, up until The Man from UNCLE, Vaughn played a lot of heavies and other unpleasant types. He was a fine actor, and though the series was fun, The Man from UNCLE wasted the considerable depth he could bring to a role.
In this episode, a woman's new husband mysteriously disappears from their hotel on the eve of their honeymoon. The hotel manager recommends Checkmate for the case, since she wants to avoid publicity her wealthy family might use against her.
The drama holds up well until a late tactic by Checkmate isn't really the slam-dunk solution they pretend it is. The writers hoped we viewers wouldn't notice. LOL.
