Cate Blanchett's performance of a female superstar conductor is the reason to see the movie Tar. The film sinks us into the world of symphony. It's a learning experience (it was for me); engrossing. Think of the smartest person you know; say Einstein and look how messy the personal life can get. Do you want to now cancel him because you can with an edited video shown on the internet? Do you think it's right to abuse your fame to satisfy your ego without consequences? Would you like to see different outcomes? Is cancel culture the answer? Maybe. Lauer, Rose, Weinstein, Louis CK, Russell, Bonds, Soto, McGuire - all male versions of Tar. Hard to see such talent be reduced to less than what it was when it started. The missing piece here is apology and redemption. So even though we see Tar reduced to continuing her craft at a kind of country fair event (falling so far) it would have been more satisfying if she had voiced apologies to many she had hurt. Showing that even in disgrace, she felt remorse. Instead of hiding she decided to keep apologizing then going back to work with a new work ethic. That would have been a nice addition.
