Right, well the cover for this 2017 Taiwanese horror comedy titled "Guai Guai Guai Guaiwu!" (aka "Mon Mon Mon Monster!") was definitely interesting enough to make me stop up and take notice of the movie. And with it being an Asian horror comedy that I hadn't already seen, of course I opted to watch it.
Now, I had never heard about "Guai Guai Guai Guaiwu!" from writer and director Giddens Ko prior to sitting down here late in 2022 to actually watch it. So I wasn't sure what I was in for here, nor did I know what to expect. So writer and director Giddens Ko had every opportunity to entertain and impress me.
This movie was not a particularly enjoyable horror comedy. The movie's script was pretty much devoid of comedy elements, and as a stand-alone horror movie then "Guai Guai Guai Guaiwu!" just didn't really cut it. I found very little enjoyment in what writer and director Giddens Ko managed to churn out with this 2017 movie. It was a slow paced narrative for me, especially since nothing much of anything worthwhile happened as the movie slow motioned ahead at a run time of nearly 2 hours.
The acting performances were adequate. I wasn't familiar with the actors or actresses in the movie, as I haven't watched a whole lot of Taiwanese movies despite of watching an abundance of Asian movies frequently. A shame that the actors and actresses didn't have much to work with in terms of a properly interesting script.
The characters in the movie were generally very dislikeable. And that was taking quite a lot away from the overall feel of the movie.
Visually then "Guai Guai Guai Guaiwu!" was quite okay. But the special effects could do only so much to alleviate for the movie's other shortcomings.
I wasn't entertained by "Guai Guai Guai Guaiwu!", and this is not a horror comedy that you will find me recommending to anyone.
