It looked too much like a po faced version of Blade Runner meets Blakes 7. American viewers might not recognise former actors from British soap operas Coronation Street and Eastenders popping up in the cast.
I even thought director Toby Haynes was trolling the audience. The officious Syril Karn seems to be based on Rimmer from Red Dwarf.
The third episode does add some oomph.
The introduction of Luthen (Stellan Skarsgård) with his booby traps and exit plans adds some fun and action.
There is certainly a feeling that Cassian Andor will begin a journey that will take him to Rogue One. Instead of being some kind of a struggling scavenger.
Having Skarsgård in the cast certainly helped.
