Beautiful tragedy befalls these incredibly well written characters

Warning: Spoilers
Three incredibly heartfelt and well written scenes in this episode:

In his final moments, Fitzjames disavows of all his prior vanities, and asks from Francis to absolve him of his pains. Here, we see two changed men, broken down by their predicaments, and only episodes prior, in the early onset of the expedition, full of mistrust and contempt for each other.

Then there is the scene between Crozier and Blanky. Even while their ranks are dwindling from illness and mutiny, Crozier is still resolute in his commitment as Captain. He doesn't want to see another man wasted to sacrifice. You are reminded of how beautifully written and terrifically tragic the plight of these characters are, and even in their plight, Jared Harris's character shines through with incandescent humanity.

Lastly, there is Jopson, the Captain's steward, lying in his sickbed and no longer able to tend to the Captain. Crozier enters and reciprocates the care that he received from Jopson while the former was weaning off from his alcoholic addiction. Crozier wipes away Jopson's tears and tells him a story to take his mind off of his sickness.

I cannot stop thinking about this series and its characters.
