Lovely gentle humour, very funny, and really likeable characters. It may not quite be up to Father Ted's standard, but what on earth is? It's not far off.

I love the part where ma removes the bed from the daughter's room in case she sleeps in it with her boyfriend. When the dad pretends to be gay for a joke - "we're a pair of those" - it's priceless. Check out the pile of uncut bread and butter on the table when the family are eating dinner in episode 1 - I recognise that as a working class thing from the 1950's. They have a repair man who seems to live in the walls. The ending of this short series is heartwarming.

What's great about it is that it's full of surprises. You don't know what this cast of silly characters is going to do or say or misunderstand next. It has a tragic quality though: the slow son with no life, the highly frustrated daughter (the only one with a brain), the delusional and irresponsible father, the mother who can't understand modern life and is actually looking forward to death; heaven awaits her, you see.

If you like comedy with lovable characters, take a look.
