The Red Spider (1988 TV Movie)
2/10
More glorified 80's glam trash.

Warning: Spoilers
A series of murders with the same mark on the chest (the scar resembling a spider) have been noted by the police, creating a big investigation in the police force and incurring the wrath of lifeless D. A. Jennifer O'Neill has detective James Farentino working overtime. The latest victim is a cop, an old friend of Farentino's, and his cop daughter wants to join the undercover team to get the hooker in the bad Glenn Close/Fatal Attraction frizzy hairdo. Add in a bunch of Asian mobsters and you take this into Tong territory. The paint by numbers structure of the mystery don't lead anywhere other than to a mess on the pages of the script.

Completely laughable in the way it's so serious. O'Neill's brittle character would have her face fall into little pieces if she dared to crack a smile. The fact that she's working as a volunteer puppet show performer in the hospital is suppose to soften her, and details about her late husband seem totally contrived. A completely ridiculous story is just eye rolling and boring, a cliched 80's thriller done so many times that it becomes tiresome to try to get into and care about watching it all unfold. The street hookers are idiotic cliches, with the female cop undercover actually approaching them and asking, "How's tricks?" No matter how much glamour you use to disguise trash, it's still gonna end up in a landfill somewhere.
