Nothing pathbreaking but still a decent watch.

The Broken News review :

"Sambhala hai maine bahut apne dil ko Zubaan par tera phir bhi naam aa raha hai"

This melodious Anu Malik number from Mahesh Bhatt's Naaraaz (1994) is how college guys of that time still remember the lovely Sonali Bendre on whom it was picturised. Making a comeback on OTT, Sonali is the only reason I watched The Broken News on Zee5, a web series supposedly adapted from the BBC produced Press (2018).

Bendre plays a media chief executive who is a criss cross between Barkha Dutt and Rubika Liaquat. Her opponent is the Arnab Goswami inspired Jaideep Ahlawat for whom news is nothing but pure business, fact ho ya fiction. Shriya Pilgaonkar is Sonali's associate whom Jaideep is trying hard to poach..

Layered with recent real life events from the mall fire to me too controversy, The Broken News makes for a breezy binge watch as the pace is mighty fast, the performances are efficient and Sonali Bendre is still as lovely and elegant as she was in Naaraaz. Only be forewarned in case you login with too high expectations: the series doesn't offer any insight on media industry which we dont know or haven't seen or read before. Offo!!

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.
