I absolutely loved the first twenty minutes or so of this film. After the sensational start, it moves into normal Hollywood gear for the rest of the film; and that is not too bad, either. Ray Milland does a great job in the lead role, and Miller writes a great script. Lang, however, makes the film a notch above most other WW 2 spy films with his masterful direction. Yes, there is a Hollywood ending, but what studio ever defied that rule in the 1940s? Not too many.
