Potential to get better. (S1 finale update at the end)
17 April 2022
I think this one is one of those shows that you have to stick with to the end. I love Imogene Poots even though she hasn't been in that many high profile projects, and Josh Brolin as well (feels like Thanos starring in a western every time he speaks here), and that got me excited before the show even aired so I was a bit concerned it might not be as good as I'll want it to be but fortunately it's decent so far. All I knew was it's a modern western so I was a little shocked to see it had a sci-fi/ fantasy element to it, it's made me impatient to finish the whole thing because I'm curious to see how it all plays out. The moment it implied Greek mythology was going to be involved, with the alien like perfect circle excavation in the field I was sold. I just hope people try to enjoy this show for what it is, not because they're looking for the next Yellowstone because a lot of decent shows die owing to people comparing it to another great show with an existing fan base. It's slow paced which I don't really mind, I just usually think it's better for shows like that to be released all at once because they're sometimes better binge-watched. My only concern is I wish it gave up a little more, I know they can't reveal the entire plot but more like character depth or backgrounds, more detail, because that could be what turns an alright-show into a good show. Want to leave each episode with a new tangible pieces of the puzzle, not filler episodes with cliff hangers at the end to keep it captivating. It's not predictable but it's following two main straight forward story lines plus the love interest side show for now. Just feels like it could be more. Seen some complain about the lighting but that's probably because a lot of what's happened in the first two episodes occurs at night. It's like a 6-ish, close to a 7 outta ten so far with a lot of room for improvement and if they fill it up it could end up being a pretty good show so I'm looking forward to the new episodes.

UPDATE: The series is done now and I must say it's left a whole lotta questions. I'm surprised I couldn't figure out see autumn and until it was revealed, but that, her mother, perry, the herd and even more things are left unexplained but I'm not really annoyed about it, I'm just eager to find out what it all means the the second season's arrives. It started off as a western but this turned out to be more sci-fi than it led on and I think it's been inconsistent but still pretty decent. I also loved how they released two episodes at a time, more slow-burner tv shows should do that.
