I've never read the books, but stumbled across the very first movie in the series: Gabriel's Inferno.
I decided to watch the whole story, and after the first 3 films, they become very repetitive, using the same shots/scene set ups. The lighting and cinematography at times is not very flattering for the lead (Julia). Gabriel at times sounds like he is mumbling his lines.
Some scenes could've been left on the cutting room floor during editing. The direction and writing has become stale & stagnant. Overall it's a boring story, poorly executed.
