Season Three Review
9 March 2022
And so, the finale arrives. The end of the third and final season of this reboot of "Lost in Space". On the whole, I think this season has been really positive - though I did end up wishing that the resolution required something cleverer than what was provided.

With SARS ship arriving into orbit around Alpha Centuri, the Robinson family take the lead in trying to re-establish the defensive dome, an action that brings down the ship, but doesn't slow SAR down very much. Whilst being transported away from the base, Will (Maxwell Jenkins) comes to realise that the engine is not just a transport, but the weapon that SAR used to destroy his creators homeworld and that he needs to be separated from it. From there, an act of kindness and one of sacrifice give the colony a fighting chance.

It was another tremendous looking episode as, in fairness, the show always has been. The performances are really good also. Plot wise, initially I thought it was a little iffy, getting the shield back operating is only really a short-term tactic in stopping SAR, but I did like the twist of the episode and ultimately how the SAR storyline came to be resolved. However, the "getting the gang" together moment in that again didn't really make as much sense as I was hoping for and was lacking a clever touch that I was anticipating as Will arrived.

I think this is indeed probably the right place to end the series. It's first season was poor, which started the show of on the wrong footing and probably shook off a lot of the potential audience, which is a shame, because it's certainly rallied since then - only for covid to hammer out another year of production and leading to the decision to end now. I'm generally satisfied with the episode, the season and the series overall.
