Benji Madden-ing.

Occasionally, watching all the films on Disney Plus in alphabetical order is fun, but occasionally it's a massive chore sitting through something that time has made wholly unwatchable. Alas, Benji The Hunted" is firmly in that latter category.

Benji a dog, who is famous for some reason, is lost a sea. He washes ashore, sleeps the night and then sees a Cougar shot and killed by a hunter. Discovering that the cougar has four cubs Benji decides to look after them. As he feeds and protects them, the dangerous of the woodland become apparent as they encounter bears, eagles and a wolf who is persistently following them.

I really couldn't abide this. I hate proper animal documentaries so this, where Disney (let's go with..) 'encourages' animals to perform and then builds a narrative around it was so dull that at one point I felt that I couldn't remember my life before the film was on. Fortunately, we're no longer in the nail a badger to a board and send to over a waterfall era, for Disney animal docs and have to settle for a long since dead wolf being thrown off a cliff.

Naturally, after an opening scene with Benji's owner - Rip Taylor from the end of the Jackass movies - there is no dialogue, so instead the score is populated by very dated 80's music, and songs from a John Denver-lite singer.

This, perhaps, is one that if you saw it as a child, the positive nostalgic feeling might carry you through, but all the pleasant shots of the countryside can't make up for the tedious nature of the film.
