Don't Look Up (2021)
1/10
A Wonderfully Cynical Mess.

Warning: Spoilers
I was looking forward for this movie since it was first announced.

I enjoyed Adam McKay's previous movies, especially "The Big Short" and I quite liked "Vice" even though it was far from perfect. His energetic editing style does fit his satirical tone, and using such a threat as an asteroid to represent a real life problem (be it global warming, a hurricane, a pandemic) is fitting for his directing style.

The first hour of this movie is very much perfect, has good moments, good commentary, good set ups. And then the movie continues for another hour and a half, repeating itself (we didn't need a second TV interview), treading old ground, and most baffling in its intentions, trying to make the characters likeable. The biggest problem with "Don't Look Up" is that none of the characters is sympathetic, likeable, or even close to relateable. McKay's style of writing characters is more fit for cartoons than real people, so when everyone's gathered around the table at the end, waiting for the impact, I felt empty and uninterested.

Good intentions squandered by how full the movie is of itself, with a scoop of excessive running time (could've been one hour shorter).
