Antlers (2021)

Enjoyable but Lacking

Warning: Spoilers
There were some great moments in this film, the acting and atmosphere were incredible. It seemed like there were some scenes that were cut from the film to reduce run time, and there were some confusing plot devices. For example: why is social services never called or involved? Why are teachers and principals breaking and entering into the home of a known meth manufacturer just out of curiosity? Where are all the police? Why don't the police follow protocol like calling for back up? There were several times where the plot only moved forward due to the stupidity of the characters, and things happening that would never happen in the real world. Overall it was enjoyable because the acting from the child actor who plays Lucas and the actor who plays the father was phenomenal, and the cinematography was incredible. It was a dark and disturbing film that was a great metaphor for generational trauma but it could've been better executed.
