PRIMITIVE LONDON is an interesting documentary about social / cultural change in London, England.
It opens with a burlesque show, segues to an explicit live birth (!), then moves onto fashions and various groups, including: Mods, Rockers, and Beatniks. The interviews are priceless!
Next, we're shown a dance class for female strippers. Their male instructor is hilarious! Moving on, we're introduced to a topless fashion show, followed by a women's Judo class, complete with historically correct sexist remarks.
We're then schooled in haberdashery and then-current hairstyles. Next, we're off to the strip club. Wow! Not exactly as expected! More like watching some semi-naked musical.
Oh! Here comes the undulating bodybuilder guy, and a gym full of sweaty wrestlers.
Yikes!
Suddenly, we're plunged into the dark world of swimsuit beauty contests. Is this a tattoo parlor? Women getting inked in 1964! What the...? Rotund men in a Turkish bath? Man-A$$ Alert! Hmmm, two women wearing jeans in a bathtub? A string quartet? Where did they come from? A groovy rock band appears doing their best BEATLES impersonation.
After some more time with the Rockers, we're hurtled into a talk about car accident fatalities. Wha...? Jack the Ripper? This movie has it all! Nothing can prepare you for the primer on the dangers of being a prostitute! Huh? Back to the burlesque show.
Of course, no documentary such as this can ignore the "key party" that was all the rage. A comic takes the stage, topless gals in leopard print tights take the stage.
The rest is about teen idols, bowling, goldfish surgery, and chicken slaughter. As a bizarre time capsule, this is certainly worth watching...
