Cast Away (2000)

Everything ends as it should be

Warning: Spoilers
In many great films some events don't end with what it should be. Sometimes events end too cliche or too optimistic or too surrealist which messes our appreciation for the film, But Cast Away was pretty perfect in that.

While watching his growing friendship with Wilson I was really concerning which fate has the writer chosen for this lovely friendship.

Chack has been created Wilson in his mind to be his friend in the wild, so Wilson belongs to the wild. His story must last as long as Chack is in the wild and also must end when he returns. And that was what the writer typically chose. When Chack indiscretionally throw Wilson from the cave, it might go far with the ocean, but thankfully he caught him on the shore because there still was time for Chack in the wild. The ship appearance means leaving wilderness so Wilson's story must end before that. That was sad, but it what has to be done.

We all had feelings with this island and so Chack had. That revealed when he kept his eyes on it until ocean hided it. That lasting feeling must be reflected into the events. And they did that. It comes up when he needed to move on after Kelly became not his anymore. It's the concept of if you can't see hope, just keep breathing until life has something. And remember, life always do.

It was lovely that the last scene is related with the first. From the sign on car's back we know that the gorgeous woman who showed him directions was the owner of the package he meant returning to its owner. Also she is divorced as the banner which appeared with her husband name at the beginning is now removed. So, Life did!

I challenge anyone that the writer meant Chack go behind the woman. That was pretty clear after he looked to the other 3 ways and ended looking to the way she went through. By the way it was cool when she called Chack cowboy like Toy Story. Finally, thanks god she didn't say to her dog "come on Wilson" like I read someone wanting as it would be too cliche and mess up all the film. 😅
