*batteries not included (1987) is a movie my daughter and I watched together on HBOMAX. The storyline for this house involves some investors paying people to leave their homes so they can finish their development. Some older people wish to stay but are getting pressured to go...physically. When things look at their absolute worst some little helpers arrive just in time to hopefully save the day. This movie is directed by Matthew Robbins (Dragonslayer) and stars Hume Cronyn (Brewster's Millions), Jessica Tandy (Driving Miss Daisy), Elizabeth Peña (La Bamba), Michael Carmine (Leviathan) and Dennis Boutsikaris (The Bourne Legacy). The storyline for this is super well developed and paced. The writing is very good in terms of development of circumstances, the characters and the dire straights. As the story evolves you feel the rollercoaster of hope gained and lost and the value of comradery. The cast is perfectly selected and deliver their characters well and there's a feeling of triumph in the conclusion. The special effects are excellent for this era also. Overall this is a fun family film with some good messages that is a must see. I would score this an 8.5/10 and strongly recommend it.
