The Apple (1980)

Pretty terrible, sometimes in an entertaining way

I'm just blown away by how bad the songs are... not sure I've ever squeezed the top part of my nose in discomfort this many times during a single movie before. This must be what happens when you take an equal amount of LSD and cocaine at the same time and then try to make a sci-fi musical.

The sad part is, I think it could be enjoyable in the same way as Rocky Horror or Phantom of the Paradise if the songs were good, but they are so, so, so bad. Closest I came to liking a song was the one about speed in America, but that's only because it sounded like a cheap Jim Steinman imitation, and I've always had a fondness for Jim Steinman's music.

I like the craziness of the story, the hammy/stupid characters, the bold colours, and ridiculous sets/costumes, but at least half of this is singing and the songs are almost intolerable.

If you like laughing at kinda bad dialogue and acting and extremely bad music, then maybe this could be your kind of movie. I had some fun with it but quite a bit of it was rough.
