Zuckerkandl! (1968)
6/10
An Unlikely Academic Animation
10 September 2021
This animated short is structured as a University address (narrated by Robert Maynard Hutchins, former Chancellor of University of Chicago), which offers a profile of the life and work of fictional Philosopher, Zuckerkandl, who is setup as contemporary of Freud. As the narrator speaks to the audience, the film cuts to humorous depictions of Zuckerkandl and his philosophy. The film satirises moral philosophy and psychology (particularly Freud) in a light-hearted way.

The animation is mostly monochrome line-drawings, typical of the era, with some sections utilising colour and cut-out techniques.

An oddity, with limited appeal, but if you're a fan of John Hubley's other work, or interested in the subject matter, it might be worth a look.
