KILLER WITHOUT A FACE (1968, original title Assassino senza volto) is another proto giallo from Italy, made just before the popularity of the genre really soared. This one looks and feels more like a German krimi film of the era, with various assembled non-entities present in a spooky old castle getting bumped off by a mystery killer who uses a gun to commit his or her crimes. Despite the location there's little atmosphere here, as much of the running time is given over to inane dialogue between uninteresting characters; the only one of note is screen tough Laurence Tierney (of RESERVOIR DOGS fame) as a mute handyman. Some of the stalk and shoot sequences are fun but there are far too few of them for this to be an entertaining film.
