The reason I gave this film such a high rating is not because of the stand alone simple story idea that was presented. But rather the fact that the film had to be done in such a way to coincide with the clues provided with the complementary book with the same title.
What really got me was the hidden film that my sub conscious mind played back after the original viewing in my dreams.
This gave me images that I didn't see on screen that gave me the clues needed to find The Gold Horse.
Another film to do this was David Lynch's "Lost Highway" which I highly recommend as well.
