Why such a low score but still using the adjective "solid"? Well, the story itself is good. It's interesting and, weirdly, is the only thing that keeps you watching because the acting and a lot of the dialogue is some of the WORST I've ever seen. In anything, ever.

At first I read some reviews talking badly about the dialogue and acting and I thought "oh, TYPICAL reviewers who score everything really low".

NO. They were very much right. The main actress and the actor who plays the Executioner just don't cut it, sorry. The lady who's a big wig from NY and has a tv show? Bad. There's a scene at the beginning of an episode with a female couple walking through a field and it has SUCH BAD dialogue that you've gotta laugh. Then another scene at the art gallery with a girl saying that they'll take anything and "money is no object. I make six figures drinking blood online". Between the lines of dialogue and the HORRIBLY BAD acting, it's a chore to be able to get through. But that's just it. By then the STORY is driving you and you try to block out the bad (which is a lot). But I now finally understand when people complain about bad dialogue and use descriptions such as saying that something sounds as if it were written by a not-very-well-read 5th grader.

Then there's the really bad continuity mistake of the gluttony drawing in the summer camp book. You'll definitely know it when you see it.

Now I'm off to watch season two, which a lot of people say is way better. We'll see.
